Department Profile – Marketing and Strategy
The Department of Marketing & Strategy came into existence in 1995. The department is a part of IBS Hyderabad, the Faculty of Management of the University. Currently, the department has fifty two faculty members involved in teaching, research and administration. Twenty seven of these are Ph.D holders.
The department offers courses as part of PhD in Management, MBA, BBA and BBA-LLB (Hons) programs of the University. Members of the department also teach courses offered by the Operations Management area as well.
Research and Publications
Faculty members in the department actively engage in research and publications and a significant proportion of papers are published in ABDC and Scopus listed journals. Core areas of research in the department are Services Marketing, Consumer Behavior, Retailing, and Brand Management. Nearly 70% of the publications by faculty feature in reputed International journals and the rest in prominent national journals. Faculty in the department uses the case method predominantly as the medium of instruction. They have excelled in writing business cases and have received the highest possible recognition in case writing across the globe – a feat no Indian academic has achieved. At least fifteen research papers have been presented by our faculty members in the last five years in International conferences like the AOM, ACR, JCP to name a few.
Faculty members from the area are involved as resource persons in conducting Management Development programs for different organizations such as the Indian Army, Bank of India and Penna Cements to name a few. In terms of industry student interaction the department invites senior managers to share their valuable Experiences. Last year alone twenty five senior managers visited IBS and addressed the students majoring in Marketing and Strategy on a variety of topics.
The Department publishes The IUP Journal of Business Strategy, a double blind reviewed, Cabell’s Indexed, and quarterly published Journal.
The Department organizes a conference called ICOMBS (International Conference on Marketing and Business Strategy). Six conferences have been organized since 2008. Faculty members from different institutions had the opportunity to present research papers and case studies during ICOMBS
